29/12/23 (Pet Portraits)

I should probably clarify that I’m not launching a pet portrait business, I just really wanted to draw these two fluffy monsters and thought I’d share them on the blog. I’m mostly putting off sorting out a What-I-Read-Last-Year post (coming in January one I’ve sorted a better emoji system to write reviews?)…

So yeah! Here are Lillie and Luna. I had a dream just before Christmas that they turned into people, which felt like divine intervention, the universe telling me to try to remember how to draw manga (I was trained by Katy Coope’s How To Draw More Manga (not sure what happened to How to Draw Manga?) and haven’t practiced much since I was a teenager). I never did get very far past front-facing, stiff-posed things with big heads and big eyes. They’re in suits because they’re tuxedo cats. There was a discussion at home as to whether they would have white people skin if they were magicked into personhood, however nobody has volunteered to shave them to see what colour they are under all the fluff… Maybe we’re thinking too hard about it. I resurrected my iPad and bought Procreate on Boxing Day, made lots of layers, got them all mixed up, then jammed them together to put them into a gaudy frame jpeg I screenshotted from the internet. Merry Cat-Mas?
